Resistance is futile - a love letter

Painful insight #1 Being someone who's resistant to words like routine, consistency, and structure (which is exactly what’s required if you’re committing to producing a newsletter) this should be interesting.

Breathe, Geraldine...

Realignment happens when I remember to get still and feel into curiosity about my feelings of resistance and where they originate, about writing a new story for myself, about routine and the possibility of fluidity within it.

I recently saw the answer I didn’t know I needed on a walk one day.

Assiniboine River

The Assiniboine River near my home flows from the west, routinely you could say. It bends and turns, it supports the life of creatures within it and visitors to its surface. It’s shaped by the clay, mud and rocks beneath it and the roots of towering trees on either side of its banks. It’s open to the sky and has all the space it needs to breathe, gurgle, rush, and flow freely.

Fluidity, as it turns out, can happen within the loving arms of supportive and nurturing, “fixed” structures that allow it to flow easily, even wildly, at times – without resistance. It’s not one or the other, it’s both…and.

What I need to support me as a solopreneur are other people, a team. For example, I chose to work with Tandem Collaborative to help me build structure into my marketing and business strategy. They’re my team, and they offer perspective, tools, and ideas I didn’t previously have, and suggestions like “Hey Geraldine, you should write a newsletter!”

It's hard to do things alone and we don’t have to, we’re not meant to. We need a team, we need peers, other professionals, and community, we need our friends and family to help us move forward, outward, and my favourite - inward.

Everyone needs a team, and as a coach, I’m a team member with my clients. Maybe you’re facing your own resistance and trying to set priorities for yourself. Maybe you want support in tackling some of those roadblocks preventing you from taking meaningful action. Working with a coach can help. I’m a coach. I can help.
